Organizational/Diversity WorkI customize and conduct consultations, half-day, full-day, and weekend workshops for organizations, non-profits, and community groups with these main areas of focus:
Community healing and leadership training The Community Healing & Leadership Training teaches individuals, communities, organizations and collectives how to become more deeply inclusive, democratic, functional, and sustainable. Inclusion, deep democracy, and diversity are synonymous with sustainability. A sustainable community integrates the depth and breadth of its members as well as its processes and problems. The attitude and ability to integrate diverse people, perspectives, and problems are central to this teaching. Communities heal, or become more whole, by the profound act of inclusion. This is inclusion of all members, perspectives, feelings, and states of mind. Inclusion extends to all of our differences of gender, sexual orientation, age, race, religion, socio/economic and educational background, abilities, and other vital elements. Inclusion simply gives the community more of its own resources to draw upon. It gives itself more options and flexibility. Because more of each person is welcomed and included, there is more engaged participation. Naturally, an attitude of inclusion invites the deep leadership that exists in a group. In this training, "secondary" leadership is developed. If "primary leadership" is the leadership ability that is known, "secondary leadership" is the unknown, deeply creative power that resides in us. Often connected to our most troubling problems and conflicts, "secondary leadership" is often our most potent contributing quality. Conflict is an unavoidable step in growth and evolution. Integrative conflict resolution is the philosophy and practice that seeks to both resolve conflict and integrate the vital elements that are often mistakenly thrown away. It sees conflict as a vehicle for integrating new perspectives, possibilities, and people. It also sees that conflict "resolution" without integration usually just recycles or manifests in growing tensions. The Community Healing & Leadership Training is offered in various formats depending on your unique needs. It is offered in weekend, daylong, and half-day formats as well as a six month training. It is also offered in a coaching format to individuals. Come create a world where everyone has a place. Process oriented diversity training Our human differences are a basic building block of sustainable and functional community life. This training helps to integrate differences regarding gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, age, religion, socio-/economic and educational backgrounds, abilities and other important elements. These vital differences constitute our potential wealth of resources, array of possibilities, and degree of adaptability. Process oriented diversity training holds that marginalized people, perspectives and processes often hold the key to collective change and overall success. Based on the groundbreaking conflict resolution and community building work of Arnold Mindell (www.aamindell.net), process oriented diversity training helps your community or organization create a wholeness and sense of welcome that is palpable for those who walk in your door and a more harmonious environment. This training benefits group entities by introducing awareness and relationship tools. These effective and practical tools heighten sensitivity regarding social rank and privilege, address marginalization and inclusion, and help facilitate and integrate differences. Trainings are customized to fit your organization/community’s specific needs and are offered in half day, full day, and weekend formats. Conflict resolution Communities and organizations often need a forum within which to address relationship problems, grievances, needs, and collective issues. One of the central principles of my conflict resolution work holds that many conflicts are essentially a collision of the known and the unknown. Thus, unfolding conflicts not only alleviate stress but also uncover new understandings, experiences, perspectives, and ways of relating. In my creative conflict resolution work, I facilitate meetings to identify, integrate, and resolve conflicts and polarizations, resulting in a greater experience of community, understanding, safety, trust, empowerment, and good feelings.
